Occupational Health and Safety - Level 3 SVQ & NVQ

The S/NVQ Occupational Health and Safety Level 3 qualification has been developed for appropriate individuals working in an organisation with hazards and risks of a relatively straightforward nature. Their task would be to promote a positive culture of health and safety, by setting up safe systems, and developing a safety policy to satisfy the company's obligations under current legislation. This qualification should take around 6-12 months to complete. Leading to membership of IOSH. (Tech IOSH).

Occupational Health and Safety - Level 4 SVQ

The SVQ Occupational Health and Safety Level 4 qualification has been developed for those persons appointed to provide health and safety assistance in organisations with significant hazards and complex risks. This qualification should take from 12-24 months to complete. Leading to full membership of IOSH. (CMIOSH).

Occupational Health and Safety Diploma - Level 5 NVQ

This diploma denotes competence which involves the application of knowledge and skills in a broad range of complex, technical or professional work activities performed in a wide variety of contexts and with a substantial degree of personal responsibility and autonomy. Responsibility for the work of others and the allocation of resources is always present. This qualification should take around 6-12 months to complete.

The Management of Health and Safety - level 5 SVQ & NVQ

This qualification is aimed at Senior managers who are responsible for the management of Health & Safety & the development of strategy for Health and Safety practice. Candidates must demonstrate an application of knowledge and skills in a broad range of complex, technical or professional work activities. This qualification should take around 6-12 months to complete.

NB: Health and Safety NVQ’s are also a route to the Construction Site Card Scheme (CSCS): Level 3 (Gold Card), Level 4 and Level 5 (Black Managers Card).

Introduction
to NVQ / SVQ

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) / Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) are qualifications which are structured to recognise individual’s competence or ability to do their job to the required standard.

They are developed by representatives from leading groups within the specific industry/sector and must be approved by the National Council for Vocational qualifications. An S/NVQ requires people to gather evidence of their skills and competencies from their everyday work rather than from the more traditional exams or courses. There are several hundred different S/NVQ’s on offer across all sectors of industry.
